Abstract

The corrosion inhibition effect of 5-[((4-mthyle phenol)azo)-N-(6-amino-2-pyridil) salicylaldeied on mild steel was investigated using polarization and electrochemical impedance techniques in 0.5 M H2SO4. Result obtained reveal that this Schiff-base is good inhibitor for mild steel in 0.5 M H2SO4. Tafel polarization studies clearly reveal the type of inhibitor. This Schiff-base acts on cathodic and anodic reactions and reduces corrosion current density. Changes in impedance parameters (Rct and Cdl) are indicative of adsorption of the Schiff-base on the metal surface leading to formation of protective film which grows with increasing concentration and inhibition efficiency values increase. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and Tafel polarization are in good agreement. This Schiff-base is found to adsorb on mild steel surface according to the Langmuir adsorption isotherm.
