Abstract

To ensure the safety of industrial process related to pulverized coal, inhibition capacity of melamine cyanurate (MCA) on pulverized coal explosion was investigated. Oxidation process and explosion characteristics of the pulverized coal mixed with MCA were conducted, and the characteristics of explosion products were detected to demonstrate the inhibiting processes of MCA. The results demonstrated that the maximum mass loss rate and heat release of the pulverized coal oxidation decreased with the mass fraction of MCA increasing. When the addition amount of MCA ranged from 0% to 70%, maximum explosion pressure, maximum pressure rising rate and average flame velocity were decreased. The explosion was completely inhibited when 65% MCA was added and the optimum inhibiting concentration was approximately 195 g/m3. The inhibiting mechanism of MCA on pulverized coal explosion included isolation, heat absorption and oxygen consumption. The results of this work provide basic parameters for coal dust explosion prevention.
