Abstract

ABSTRACT Inheritance of pubescence (on leaves and follicles) and corolla color in periwinkle was studied in a cross involving the variety Nirmal (pubescent leaves and follicles and white corolla) and a germ-plasm line PS-1 (glabrous leaves and follicles and pink corolla). Pubescence on leaves and follicles was governed by a single recessive gene. The difference in corolla color of Nirmal and PS-1 was due to a single gene R (reported to produce pink corolla in the presence of another gene W). The gene R governing corolla color was inherited independently of the gene governing pubescence.
