Abstract

A report is made of an inguinal hernia which mimicked a carcinoma of the sigmoid flexure on x-ray study after administration of a barium enema. A simple technic of examination is suggested whereby error of interpretation might be avoided in the routine preoperative sigmoidoscopic and roentgenologic examination of the colon in patients undergoing elective inguinal herniorrhaphy.
