Abstract

Abstract The ν(CO) and ν op (CO) 2 modes for 4-x benzoic acids in CHCl 3 and/or CCl 4 solutions decrease in frequency as the σ p values for the 4-x atoms or groups decrease in value while the ν(OH) mode increases in frequency. Different complexes are formed between the CO 2 H and (CO 2 H) 2 groups as the mole% CHCl 3 /CCl 4 changes from 0 to 100.
