Abstract

The classical Maxwell equations can be solved in any axial gauge $$n\cdot A=0$$ (1) In Minkowski space we distinguish between three different axial gauges $$\begin{matrix} temporal gauge:n\cdot n=+1 \\ light cone gauge:=0 \\ spatial gauge:=-1. \\ \end{matrix}$$ (2) In a corresponding Euclidean field theory there is the single choice $$n\cdot n=+1$$ (3) We call this gauge “temporal” throughout.
