F. Abstract Polarization between 3 and 13 microns has been observed in the infrared sources in the galactic center. The spectral dependence of the polarization shows that the polarizing agent is aligned dust grains containing silicates. The polarization direction is not aligned in the direction of the plane and appears to vary across the source. The data indicate that the grains are composed of a silicate with relatively weak absorption, compared with terrestrial or lunar olivine or pyroxene rocks. Grains either hotter or colder than the gas could be aligned to give the observed polarization. The minimum magnetic field in the galactic center is of the order of 0.0005 gauss, if the Davis-Greenstein (1951) mechanism is operational.
