Abstract

The infrared reflection and absorption spectra of antiferromagnetic semiconductor MnTe 2 were measured in the energy range 33 cm -1 ∼330 cm -1 , and four optical phonon bands were observed near 140.5 cm -1 , 150 cm -1 , 159 cm -1 , and 164 cm -1 . The optical constants were calculated by Kramers-Kronig analysis, and were also analyzed by the classical oscillator model. From the dielectric constants, longitudinal and transverse optical phonon frequencies are estimated. In addition the Szigeti's effective charge is calculated to be (0.62±0.05) e , which shows the larzer ionicity of this compound in comparison with FeS 2 etc.
