Abstract

Tetrachloro ethylene was converted to hexachloro benzene with a yield of 88% under the specific action of vibrationally excited boron trichloride or one of its dissociation fragments. BCl 3 could neither be replaced by SF 6 nor by BBr 3. In mixtures of BCl 3, O 2, and C 2Cl 4 mainly CO is produced with only negligible amounts of C 6Cl 6. Under Similar conditions mixtures of SF 6, O 2, and C 2Cl 4 produce COCl 2 and CO.
