Abstract

Infrared laser optogalvanic (LOG) spectra of portions of the NO2 ν3 band at 6.2 µm and the NH3 ν2 band at 9.5 µm have been recorded at Doppler-limited resolution using cw tunable diode lasers. A novel cell design, using adjustable electrode positions and an orthogonal geometry between the probe laser and discharge axis allows two contributions to the LOG signal to be identified, one associated only with the negative glow.
