Abstract

Infrared bands associated with the (HCl)*(H2SO4) complex were identified in argon matrices. In agreement with computation (Beichert, P.; Schrems, O. J. Phys. Chem. A 1998, 102, 10540), HCl is found to bridge between the OH and SO groups of the H2SO4 monomer, but the hydrogen-bonded OH and ClH stretches are more red shifted than predicted. No spectral evidence for the existence of an (HCl)*(SO3) complex was found.
