Abstract

Many absorption lines of the ν 3 fundamental band of difluorocarbene CF 2, have been identified using tunable infrared diode lasers. Near the band centre several Q-branches, typical of a parallel band of a near prolate asymmetric rotor, have been observed and analysed. This enabled the subsequent assignment and analysis of over 200 lines in total. Using recent microwave results for the ground state parameters, analysis of the diode laser spectra yields rotational and centrifugal distortion constants for the v 3 = 1 state. (The recently determined ground state parameters have also been used to refit the ν 1 band diode laser data). The ν 3 band centre is determined as 1114.4435 (3) cm −1 and the ν 1- ν 3 Coriolis coupling constant was found to be ζ 13 c = 0.710(10).
