Abstract

AbstractThe vibrational spectra of (C5H12NO2S+·NO3−) crystals were studied and the observed IR and Raman lines were assigned. The two protonated methioninium cations exist in two different conformations. Although the crystal structure is stabilized by a three‐dimensional network of intermolecular hydrogen bonds, the latter are also responsible for the changes in the position and intensity of some bands. Strong OH··· O bonds involving the carboxyl group and normal NH··· O bonds involving the amino group were found from the vibrational spectra. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
