Abstract

Infrared spectra of adipic acid crystal in the region 60–4000 cm −1 were measured at room temperature and at liquid nitrogen temperature. Raman spectra were also measured. The normal coordinate treatments were made for the linear hydrogen-bonded chains of this compound and the deuterated analogues. The frequencies calculated from the set of force constants which were transferred from succinic acid crystal explain all the observed frequencies. This fact shows the transferability of the obtained force constants for the hydrogen-bond chains.
