Abstract

The i.r. and Raman spectra of KMgClSO 4·3H 2O and its deuterated compound KMgClSO 4·3D 2O have been recorded and analysed. Due to site symmetry effects the i.r. inactive modes appear as sharp bands in the i.r. spectrum. Water bands indicate strong hydrogen bonding and show the presence of three crystallographically distinct water molecules in the unit cell.
