Infrared absorption spectra of selectively substituted cellulose nitrates and their model compounds

Abstract

1. The IR absorption spectra of selectively O-nitrated celluloses and the corresponding model compounds were investigated. 2. The doubling of the absorption band, characteristic of the asymmetrical valence vibrations of the ONO2 groups, is observed in the spectra of tri- and 2,3-dinitrates of cellulose and the corresponding model compounds. 3. Mononitrates of cellulose and model compounds with a ONO2 group at C3 or at C6 possess only one absorption band in the region of the asymmetrical vibrations for the ONO2 group.
