Abstract

The infra-red absorption intensities of the fundamental vibration bands of BCl 3 have been measured. These measurements yield the bond moment μ (BCl) = ±0·59 D for the A 2″ class, and ±1·15 D or ±0·190 D for the E′ class. The “effective charge” is found to be ∂μ/∂ r (BCl) = ±5·07 or 4·19 D/Å.
