Abstract
The hydrogen bonding between hydroxyl and nitro groups has been investigated with infra-red spectroscopy. The frequency shift, equilibrium constant, and asymmetric vibrational absorption band, were obtained and correlated with Hammett's or Taft's sigmas. It was found that linear free energy relationship was followed and the effect of substituent can be interpreted in terms of the inductive polar or the inductive and resonance polar effects.
