Abstract

IN recent years considerable interest has been expressed in the use of infra-red spectroscopy in studies on the location of the ester sulphate group in the isomeric chondroitin sulphuric acids, A, B, and C. Although Orr's1 original assignment of bands in the 700–1,000 cm.−1 region of spectra of sulphated mucopolysaccharides has been criticized2, his views have recently received further support from the work of Mathews3, and Meyer and co-authors4.
