Abstract

The anisotropy of the electric field-induced, one-phonon transverse-optical absorption band in diamond, and the quadratic dependence of the integrated absorption on the applied field E are found to agree with theoretical predictions. The band is centred at (1332·2±0·2) cm-1 irrespective of|E| up to 1·14 × 105 v cm-1. The results are compared with some previous measurements by other authors.
