Abstract
Informed consent: legal and ethical liabilities in counseling process. To sustain the counseling process with free will client have the right to be asked for his/her consent to choose whether to enter into or remain in a counseling relationship and to be informed adequately about the counseling process. It is seen that, when ethical and legal grounds and research results are taken into account, the informed consent increases the possibility of benefiting counseling process, and reduce the risk of suffering loss. In this study, focusing on the importance of the informed consent for applying counseling professionally and the importance of conceiving it as ethical and legal requirements for counseling process in Turkey is aimed. Besides, the importance of the informed consent from the point of counseling process; controversial issues carried in itself; ethical and legal grounds and contents are focused on, as well as the implementation of the counseling process; the place of the informed consent in school counseling and guidance services, and the suggestions to be made related to the informed consent in Turkey’s conditions.
