Abstract

Curriculum practice comprises two aspects: curriculum design principles and process. Most reports on curriculum practice focus on process. This paper is written in the belief that understanding the underpinning curriculum principles and values and tying them with "what and how we teach " are pivotal to the success of the students' learning process. A focus on the process, whilst necessary, is not sufficient to confidently say that a curriculum has been designed to build a "culture of knowledge in action " for the students throughout the semester. This paper discusses the ideas incorporated in a new IT project management curriculum and shows how the principles of curriculum design, i.e. the need to enforce learning- in-action tradition within the knowledge domain, considerations of the three orientations to curriculum design, i.e. the technical, practical and transformative, have been considered in the deployment process.
