Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to identify the design of information technology governance in the 100 largest Brazilian companies, according to Guia Exame - Maiores & Melhores/2008 from the vision of its information technology executives, especially as the information technology organization is aligned to the businesses strategies through the use of governance practices in information technology. The research, an exploratory study had a quantitative approach, in statistical terms, descriptive with your data collected through structured questionnaire with closed questions. The main results indicate that around 40% of the surveyed companies are adopting information technology governance practices. Generally these companies have demonstrated a level of maturity in information technology governance practices between 3 (moderate) and 4 (superior). About 10% only shows maturity level 5 (maximum), in view of their CIOs. In terms of alignment of information technology and business, there is a greater intention to use governance practices in information technology than their effective adoption. It can be concluded that although most companies to demonstrate through the use of performance indicators to approximate the information technology with business strategies, about 1/3 of companies surveyed information technology governance practices are incipient or nonexistent.
