Abstract

Sustainable urban development contributes to cities evolving into Smart Cities (SC) by utilizing the Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The major trend towards IoT involving SC motivates significant improvements in management methods of Information Technology (IT). The strong adoption of IoT in SC creates information security complexity that is to be handled by Information Systems (IS). IS Security Management Strategy revise according to existing organisational structure. Hence, there is a critical demand to perform an evaluation of IS security management in the IoT to know key concepts in managing IS security in IoT towards SC. This paper aims to study IS security management in SC in the adoption of IoT technology. This study also discusses and classifies five comparison criteria as dimensions for managing IS security in an IoT-enabled SC that were explored in the literature. The five criteria consist of governance, integrity, interoperability, personalisation, and self-organisation. These dimensions will form the IS security management conceptual framework towards realising SC enabled by IoT technology. Document analysis was carried out to review key concepts from seven security management frameworks and relevant research reports. The review will help security executives and top management of any organisation to prepare for SC to address the five identified dimensions.
