Abstract

This paper reports an early stage in research into the use of IS methodologies in the NHS. The application context emerges as one which is highly culturally driven, but in which inappropriate instrumental methodologies, examples of which are given, have been used to develop information systems. The way forward is seen to lie in a view of the problem context based in social theory and some preliminary ideas in relation to this are proposed.
