Abstract

ABSTRACTEducators are beginning to help tertiary students to take charge of their own learning by improving their information literacy. This is a result of an increase in the amount of information available and the shift from an emphasis on teaching to a focus on learning. The research reported here sought to identify new entry tertiary students' perceptions of the information skills they need to succeed in their study. The results show that there was a strong recognition of a need for information skills instruction but not enough understanding of how this should be delivered, indicating a possibility of it making sense only when within a specific learning context in their program.
