Abstract

The business environment of the new millennium is responsive, dynamic, and competitive and is in a constant state of customer-centres change. It has been argued that effective Information Technology/Information System (IT/IS) project implementation requires a clear business vision, which clarifies the organization's direction, the goals, and the business model behind the implementation of the project. Each new integration project requires linking a whole set of incompatible technologies. Today companies implementing Enterprise Systems are largely internally focused (Enterprise Resource Planning); tomorrow they can be directed to creating linkages between companies (Supply Chain Management, Customer Relationship Management), require the cooperation with the organization's customers. The exploitation of IT and management of enterprise knowledge is the key for an organization's success. This paper discusses the positive effects and the possible perils of information integration investment on organizational performance.
