Abstract

This article describes the reanalysis of data from a recent experimental test of the tension-reduction theory of alcohol abuse. The reanalysis that is described employs a methodological approach using both single-case-design and group-comparison methods. This integrated analysis is described in some detail. The results of this reanalysis severely contradict the results of the original study, which was a well-designed and -executed experiment. The results of the reanalysis suggest that treatment evaluations that use only group-comparison or single-subject approaches may lead to erroneous conclusions.
