Abstract

This is Chapter 9 of a new book that attempts to make the presentation of environmental economics a cohesive non-rambling narrative. This chapter clarifies how difficult it is for policy-makers to obtain insights about the value of environmental amenities even when both households and firms actually know their respective benefits and costs, unlikely in practice.
