Abstract

The basic characteristics are reported, the information content of random-process signals is assessed, and recommendations for their use are given. The technical equipment for measurements and recording which allow obtaining signals concerning the properties of a fibre and the production process parameters are indicated. Recommendations on improving the technical measuring equipment are given. Correlation and spectral analysis of random-process signals allow separating the important and unimportant factors that determine the fibre quality indexes, quantitatively and qualitatively evaluating the closeness of the correlation and process lag time between them, classifying the fibres that cause streakiness in hosiery, etc. The wide range of variation of the mutual correlation function of the fibre properties suggests the instability of the manufacturing process in time and imperfection of the control and monitoring systems for production of PCA fibres. When technical measuring equipment and methods of processing the random-process signal are available, such studies can also be conducted for other properties of a fibre: strength, elongation at break, defectiveness, etc., as well as on other kinds of fibres. The mean value and irregularity factor of the linear density of the fibre with the appropriate instrument must be controlled in the production control system. The cooling conditions are controlled with an AVT-1M instrument in production of PCA fibre.
