Abstract
Blockchain technology has changed the way of doing business online. Trust was once the main problem in doing business online while cutting out the middleman was another contentious issue. However, this blockchain technology has enabled the company to be ‘decentralized’ in the sharing economy. Blockchain-based decentralized sharing economy business models will be standard in the future. This all started with the development of information and communication technology (ICT). ICT provided a base for online business development. ICT also enabled the amplification of the sharing economy. The sharing economy is a socioeconomic system that has changed the meaning of sharing around the world. Tourism had a revolution with digital developments, but the sharing economy has further changed tourism. Many sharing economy business firms offer tourism products: Airbnb, eBay, and UBER are Internet-based businesses that pioneered the online sharing economy. The chapter aims to investigate the revolution of the decentralized sharing economy in tourism.
