Abstract

This paper presents an overview of several sociological approaches to the concept of the information society, which is associated with the expansion of the ICT sector in the second half of the 20th century. The aim of the paper is to identify the fundamental characteristics of this type of society. In scientific discourse and public communications considerations are between apology and deconstruction. As key definition information society were defined as: Internet technology, decentralizing the society, the decomposition of social power and postmodernism. Synthesis presented optimistic and pessimistic interpretation of its value leads to the conclusion that the information society filled with contradictions and that eludes precise definition of the possibilities, as a society in the making.
