Abstract

The objective was to evaluate the rows effect of African mahogany ( Khaya ivorensis ) and different soil management systems in physical attributes and organic carbon of a Typic. The treatments evaluated were integration system Crop-Livestock-Forest (iLPF) at two years of cultivation, being sampled at two distances, 2.5 m forest row (iLPF2.5) and 10 m (iLPF10), at a Forest monocropping with African mahogany (AM), with two years of cultivation, in Santa Fe system (SSF) and natural forest as control treatment (NF). The attributes of the soil evaluated were organic carbon, soil bulk density, total porosity, macroporosity and microporosity. The higher content of soil organic carbon was found in the superficial layer of soil, with progressive reduction in depth. The iLPF2.5 treatments, iLPF10 and SSF showed better physical condition of soil density and porosity than the AM compared to NF. There was difference on macroporosity only in the layers 0-10 cm, taking AF the less value, and 30-50 cm, with value largest stated by iLPF2.5. In microporosity, there was difference only in the 20-30 cm depth, with higher values in MN, SSF and iLPF10. The African mahogany rows in iLPF system improved the soil physical attributes in depth. The iLPF system and the SSF obtained the best density conditions and porosity of the soil and levels of soil organic carbon. The AM promoted organic carbon accumulation, however, had a negative impact on density and porosity of the soil.
