Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of heat waves on the agronomic performance of beans in the municipality of Campos Novos, in Santa Catarina State, Brazil located in Southern Brazil. Daily data of maximum, minimum temperatures and rainfall from 1997 to 2011 from the Meteorological Station of Campos Novos were used. The data were analyzed in the Aquacrop 6.0 software to determine the cycle duration, biomass, yield and water use efficiency through evapotranspiration. In the three harvest years evaluated, it can be observed that heat waves tend to decrease cycle duration from one to three days and bean yield to 333kg/ha. The effects of heat waves on biomass production and on the efficiency of bean water use were uncertain because they may be linked to other constraints.
