Abstract

This article highlights the influence of social media on the lives of adolescents and its correlation with the development of eating disorders, with the purpose of raising awareness among readers so that they understand the importance of this topic, as well as the forms of prevention and the perspective of adolescents regarding the aesthetic standards imposed by globalization. Therefore, the general objective of this article is to evaluate the influence of social media in adolescence on distorted body perception and dissatisfaction. The research was developed through the use of a literature review method. The results presented showed that social media has become a catalyst for eating disorders in adolescence, influencing image distortion and comparisons made with other media users. However, the study concludes that more research on this relationship is needed to achieve a greater understanding of this association and the mechanism of influence on the mental and nutritional health of adolescents.
