Abstract

Objective To investigate the influential factors of recurrent urinary tract infections in children with vesicoureteral reflux. Methods Clinical data of 43 children with urinary tract infection complicated by vesicoureteral reflux who were treated in Xiamen Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital from January 2015 to December 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. Children only had urinary tract infection for once were selected as urinary tract infection group (n=21), and children who got urinary tract infection more than one time were selected as recurrence group (n=22). The severity of reflux, positive rate of urine culture, composition ratio of cultured Escherichia coli, duration of leukocytosis, resistance rate of bacterial culture, rate of antibiotic prophylaxis were analyzed and compared between the two groups. Results There was no significant difference in the degree of reflux (χ2=0.036, P=0.850), positive rate of urine culture (χ2=2.805, P=0.094) or composition ratio of Escherichia coli (χ2=0.786, P=0.375) between urinary tract infection group and recurrence group. But the lasted time of urine white blood cells increasing (t=-2.209, P=0.033), resistance rate of bacterial culture (χ2=6.044, P=0.014) and the rate of antibiotics prophylaxis (χ2=12.444, P<0.001) were significantly different between the two groups. Conclusions Recurrent urinary tract infection in children with vesicoureteral reflux is correlated to the long time of increase in urine white blood cell, bacteria drug-resistance and not using antibiotic prophylaxis. Key words: Urinary tract infection; Vesicoureteral reflux; Antibiotic prophylaxis
