Abstract

The Cold-formed steel (CFS) light frame shear wall is the most important lateral force-resisting element in CFS building systems. Extensive researches have been completed on the shear performance of CFS shear walls with various kinds of panels. It’s found that the shear capacity of the CFS shear walls is affected by many aspects. Therefore, this paper consolidates a large number of test results world-wide and establishes a database on the lateral strength of CFS light frame shear walls. The influencing factors of the shear wall’s shear capacity are analyzed systematically, which includes material properties, stud sections and spacing, framing thickness, sheathing thickness, aspect ratios, openings, screw types and spacing, loading methods, etc. The logic behind these factors is found out through the analyses of the test data and design suggestions are made accordingly.
