Abstract

There has been great interest in utilization of hyperthermia in patients with malignant neoplasms. Clinical applications of hyperthermia are classified into two categories; localized hyperthermia and total body hyperthermia (TBH). TBH has been utilized in patients with advanced and wide-spread malignancies. Although it has been reported that TBH is well tolerated in patients as long as the body temperature dose not exceed 41.8°C [4], few studies have been carried out to investigate the influences of TBH on the intracranial hemodynamics. In the present study, using an experimental model of TBH in dogs, we studied the effects of hyperthermia on the intracranial pressure (ICP), cerebral blood flow (CBF) and the autoregulation of CBF.
