Abstract

This paper investigates the influence of manufacturing tolerance on the performance of low-pole axial flux-switching permanent magnet (AxFSPM) machine. Eight important parameters are selected to calculate the effect of manufacturing tolerance using finite element analysis (FEA). The FEA investigation reveals that the tolerance of the stator tooth width and permanent magnet (PM) width affect the fundamental back-electromotive force (back-EMF). The offset angle is critical to increase the second harmonic of the back-EMF in the low-pole AxFSPM machine. The FEA results also compared with experimental results which confirmed the effect of manufacturing tolerance.
