Abstract

In article number 2200578, Lennart Mirko Scholl and co-workers present a correlation between manufacturing-related defect sizes and fatigue strength. Powder metallurgy (PM) steels show significantly higher high-cycle fatigue (HCF) strength than ingot cast steels. The main factor influencing HCF strength is the size of fracture mechanical defects, whereby improvements can be obtained by reducing their size.
