Abstract

In recent years, wind power has been developing rapidly in China. Some stability problems caused by large scale wind farm concentrated into the regional power grid have been brought. In this paper, voltage stability problem caused by wind farm is analyzed and simulated by the DIgSILENT software. The simulation results under different wind power penetrations show that the system static stability is affected by wind farm reactive power compensation capacity. The effects of both traditional coal fired power generator and wind turbines on system transient stability are analyzed through fault critical clear time with large disturbance. The simulation results show that with the growth of wind power penetration, the proportion of reactive power compensation requirement is also increased. Wind power penetration within a certain range can improve system transient stability.
