Abstract

In this study, three-dimensional elastic-plastic numerical analyses are conducted to investigate the influences of tunnel excavation on existing loaded piles. The displacement controlled model (DCM) was used to simulate the tunneling- induced volume loss effects. Numerical simulations are performed, which concern the construction of the tunnel in presence of the pile foundations. Analysis is carried out for both free-field and MJS consolidation project. Results of numerical simulations show that tunneling induces significant displacement in adjacent piles. The MJS pre-consolidation can effectively improve the pile behaviors. Due to the rigorous control of the project, the uplift of piles was induced and the maximum horizontal displacement of piles occurred nearby the tunnel crown.
