Abstract

Many landslide cases by geological investigation showed that the effect of impermeable strata was important in sliding process.A slope model including an impermeable stratum was constructed to simulate the action of rainfall and groundwater infiltration from slope back edge in order to reveal the influence mechanism of impermeable strata.Simulation results showed that the rainfall-infiltration mainly affected the soil above the impermeable stratum, including the quick increasing of water content, soil deformation, and the rapid enhance of thrust force at slope toe.The soil below the impermeable stratum was not affected. The groundwater infiltrated into the stratum under impermeable layer at back edge only affected the water content and the pore pressure below the impermeable stratum. The effect caused by the groundwater infiltrated not only increased the sliding thrust at the slope toe and the deformation of the slope body below the impermeable stratum, but also greatly increased them above the impermeable stratum.
