Abstract

In this present study, the bead shape, mechanical and structural properties of AISI 304 stainless steel plate after single pass tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding were investigated to reveal the hardness, weld bead shape (width, penetration) and microstructure of welding joints by using welding current as varying process parameter. Welded specimens were investigated using vicker's micro hardness tests, macro and micro examination to characterize homogeneity, weld width, and weld penetration respectively. The results have shown that optimum current out of the three weld current used (80A, 100A and 120A) is 100 A. Better microstructures, bead width, bead penetration and hardness were found in the welded joint for the weld current 100 A.
