Abstract

The deformation localization in a tensile sheet specimen is analyzed based on the lower bound constitutive equations for porous materials proposed by the present author. The non-uniform void distribution effect is characterized by the initial imperfection band model. Emphasis is given to the influence of the microscopic damage evolution on the localization mode and the value of critical strain. These analyses are then applied to predict the strain to localization and the instability band orientation of a tensile sheet specimen of AISI4340 steel. Good results are obtained.
