Abstract

Cobalt ferrite nanoparticles (CFO NPs) were synthesized by the sol-gel technique using different amounts of verjuice extract as a chelating agent, and non-magnetic metals such as Ca and Mg ions. Results revealed that the CFO nanoparticles prepared using 3 mL verjuice extract (S2 sample) calcined at 800 °C have a single phase of CoFe2O4 spinel structure. Vibrating sample magnetometer analysis demonstrated that the decrease of verjuice amount improved the saturation magnetization. The reported saturation magnetization value of the S2 sample (3 mL verjuice extract) was 81.2 emu/g. Next, to form an appropriate drug carrier, CoFe2O4 nanoparticles were coated with Chitosan (Cs) and tripolyphosphate (TPP). Based on observations, a large amount of Doxorubicin (DOX) as a breast anticancer drug can be carried via the aforementioned magnetic carriers and pH -dependently released in the acidic medium of cancerous cells. The CFO-Cs-TPP-DOX drug delivery nanosystem was investigated against MCF-7 cancer cell lines.
