Abstract

In general, infrastructure development is directly proportional to the growth of countries economy. Construction is a spine for transforming society into craft of living society. Construction market is of dubious in nature whose exercise is frequently astray from the scope of agreement for the various variables. Claim is the media for the construction organizations and client for the discernment contrasts from the underlying understanding in the construction contract. A claim is a debatable argument for coverage or compensation to the claimant for the activities which was deviated from the agreement and has incurred for the time and/or cost. Claim is the legal solicitation for time and/or cost incurred loss under a contract. Claims are unpredictable, so analysing the root cause of claims from taking the preceding projects basis may guide project participants incorporate integrative claim management strategies before initiating in similar traditional projects. This paper emphasis the causes of claim in construction sectors. The claims can be arisen from various constraints before and during initiation, intermediate and closing stages of the project. In this paper various root cause of claims were studied by categorizing like changes, delay, and technical cum non-technical and financial issues. Impact assessment has been done with respect to mean score obtained from various reputed papers to analyze the frequent claims occurring in construction sector. It is concluded that maximum frequency of claim arises from changes followed by delay, technical issues, contractual relations and financial factors. This study will help construction sector to have an efficient claim management process efficiently and claim leads to dispute can be minimized.KeywordsClaimRoot causeConstructionCountries
