Abstract

The widespread availability of large amounts of cereal straw has led to a growing interest in its use in ruminant livestock although it has a low content of essential nutrients, especially nitrogen. Treatment and/or supplementation of nitrogen, energy and minerals are necessary for optimal utilization of straw. The aim of the experiment was to investigate the effect of different sources of nitrogen supplements offered with straw-based diets on the milk yield and milk constituents of dairy cattle and digestibility of diets.
