Abstract

One—dimensional linear theory of interaction between electron beam and backward electromagnetic wave in transmission line is presented taking into account arbitrary velocity distribution of electrons and allowing correct consideration of finite length of interaction region. Influence of electron velocity spread оn start oscillation regime of low— voltage backward—wave oscillator is analysed. Calculations are carried out for rectangular, Lorentz and Maxwell distributions.
