Abstract

Very accurate measurements have been made of the low-field Hall coefficient ${R}_{H}^{0}$ of rapidly quenched Al-Sc, Al-Ti, Al-V, Al-Co, and Al-Ni alloys in a magnetic field up to about 40 kG and at 4.2 K. With the exception of the Al-Sc alloy the values of ${R}_{H}^{0}$ show a systmatic dependence on the valence of the $3d$ impurities. The results are discussed in the light of the Friedel-Anderson model of localized virtual states in metals.
